How does it work?
The system is driven by a database and software that looks at the address of the page that a visitor has requested, and then gathers all the information it needs to build the page from the database. This includes the page content (text, pictures and links), the title and description, everything it needs for search engines, and all the information it needs to build the navigational tools (left menu and breadcrumb tail) which are different depending on where in the website you navigate too. Where the content contains an optional Module, the system detects this and inserts it into the page.
A website built using the LWNet CMS as it's platform will look much the same as any other website. That is until a site administrator logs in using their unique username and password. The system will identify them as an administrator and two link buttons will appear at the top of each page:
Edit mode on / off
As the name suggests, this link button switches the current page Edit Mode on and off. When in Edit Mode, you will see additional controls at the top of the page. Two additional link buttons (New Page and Delete Page), plus a tabbed menu consisting of three tabs.
Edit Mode Tab Menu
The first tab shows the current page as it currently is. Clicking this tab cancels and discards any changes you may have made prior to saving.
The second tab, labeled "Edit content" presents the user with a WYSIWYG edit (What You See Is What You Get). This has a look and feel very similar to a standard word processor. When the user clicks this tab, the editor is loaded with the current page. The user can then make any alterations using the editor, and save. The changes are then immediately applied to the page, after which anyone hitting that page will see the modified page.
The third tab, labeled "Properties", shows a simple form which contains all the information needed to properly catalogue the page and index it. This information is applied to the page when it is viewed, so things like the page description and keywords (used by search engines) can easily be altered and fine-tuned. This form also sets the page Url (the address by which it can be found on the internet) and various other settings that govern how the page will be displayed in menus etc.
